To have an aircraft for larger capacities, Airbus developed the A321, which was presented in 1989 for the first time. First flight of the A321 was on March 11th 1993.
The A321 is an about 7 metres stretched version of the A320 for up to 220 passengers. The A321 flies either with CFM or with IAE engines. Compared with the A320 the wings and the gear was strengthened. Formerly the A321 should become a hot competitor of the Boeing 757, but for lack of range it is situated below. The A321 is available in two versions, version -100 and the range-improved version -200.
The complete final production is in the DASA site of Hamburg-Finkenwerder, where the A319 is built, too.
