The great success of the EMB-110 Bandeirante of the brazilian manufacturer Embraer was the base to create a worthy successor. This is the EMB-120 Brasilia. The first flight was in Summer 1983, the first delivery to ASA followed two years later.
The EMB-120 has a pressurized cabin and is faster than the EMB-110, these aspects were wished by the customers. The EMB-120 bases on the business plane EMB-121 Xingu, which was developed further for regional aviation use. The aircraft has Pratt&Whitney propellers. Since 1992 there is according to a cargo version (120C) and a QuickChange version also an ER-version with higher range and an increased takeoff weight.
